Acetone reacts with plastic cuvettes leading to cloudy appearance. Engine oil does not dissolve in acetone
Isopropylic alcohol similarly does not fully dissolve engine oil, hence less pronounced blue/green shift
Purple bands are markers of cloudy solutions that scatter UV laser light.
